Elderflower is one of those lovely, ephemeral flavours that sits somewhere between lychee, jasmine and grapefruit. When done right, a good elderflower liqueur is like a secret weapon for making almost any springtime cocktail taste amazing. Millsheds have nailed the brief here, with lots of bright florals on the nose without tipping into soapiness. There’s the right amount of acid on the palate to stop this from being a sugary mess, also, finishing with the slight grip of green apple skin. It’s light and balanced enough to drink on its own, but would also show up nicely in a spritz or shaken up in cocktails with light spirits such as rum and gin. And, seeing as this is actually a couple of bucks cheaper than the major imported brand, I see little reason not to have this on your shelf if elderflower is something you enjoy.
