Eureka Distilling Moreau Limoncello Liqueur
All I’m really looking for in a limoncello is something with a bit of balance from acid, and that doesn’t smell or taste like Palmolive, which can be hard to avoid when lemons and ethanol are your two primary ingredients. Eureka's version is big and bright and fresh, and has all the components of a good fresh lemon on the nose – sweet oiliness, pithy bitterness and sour juiciness. And it doesn’t smell like dish liquid! There’s a bit of spirit aggressiveness poking through, but the fresh lemon is certainly the dominant note. There’s plenty of bitterness on the palate to balance out the sugar and the texture is wonderful and juicy. I wouldn’t mind a little more acidity to really round it out, but this is definitely a successful, carefully constructed liqueur and a good showcase of Australia’s abundance of excellent citrus.
