Hickson House Distilling Co. Bold Shiraz Winter Cup Gin Vermouth Blend
This Winter Cup takes a unique approach to the wine/gin trend, utilising a vermouth with a shiraz base, which makes this a flavour bomb. The nose is unexpectedly abundant with different notes; there's the jammy fruit one would expect from this style of product. But you also get a subtle nod to the botanicals used in the gin and vermouth components, the dewy flavour of native thyme, chocolate, and some woody juniper are sitting just below the surface. Crushed, stewed summer fruits are the big star, it gives it a signal to the more traditional sloe gin styles, with some roasted coffee coming through courtesy of the wattleseed & pepper berry. The gin and vermouth work harmoniously to allow for botanicals to be used in each of them, and as you drink, you uncover different elements.
