Lost Phoenix Limoncello
This limoncello is cloudy and separates a little if left to sit, but that shouldn’t deter you as it speaks to the inclusion of the naturally occurring oils and particulates in actual lemons. Most filtration happens in the world of spirits for purely aesthetic reasons, often to the detriment of texture and intensity of flavour, so I’m all for products of this nature being a bit cloudy. The nose here is big and juicy, perhaps a little oxidative – like the juice from those plastic squeezy lemons – but not unpleasantly so, as natural acidity makes itself plain and without any aggressive spirit or soapiness. Both very sweet and quite tart up front, fading to a candied lemon finish and with zero alcohol burn. This is a product you’d be happy to sip on ice or with a splash of soda on a warm afternoon, and it comes at a very reasonable price.
