Lost Phoenix Pot Distilled Vodka
This vodka is not made like most others. That’s because, instead of being made with highly rectified, neutral ethanol, this is blended with spirit distilled on pot stills – the kind of rustic grain spirit that’s usually matured to become whisky. So you would expect this product to have a lot more texture and grain character than standard vodkas. But the nose is still clean and crisp, with notes of green apple and slate, with none of the heavy grain funkiness of unaged whisky. It’s definitely sweeter than most commercial vodkas, but with great texture to match and zero burn on the way down, speaking to great care in production. There’s a note of charcuterie meats on the finish, but I’m kind of here for it – dirty martini anyone? At $70/bottle, a similar price to many premium imports, this is a great deal for a local craft product, too.
