Sullivans Cove Double Cask Batch Whisky
Double Cask is ostensibly Sullivans Cove's most widely available bottling. Still, more expensive single-cask releases are far more common, and because Double Cask is their most affordable product, the handful of batches released every year get snapped up within hours. Double Cask has improved remarkably over the last decade, evolving from a base of average to poor quality casks to a true symphony played by an orchestra of cask types and conducted by production manager Heather Tillott. Batch number 118 is no exception, with Cadbury, apricot muesli bars and rolled oats leaping from the glass, with just a whiff of juicy tawny playing the bass notes. It doesn't translate with such intensity on the palate, and given its price, you might expect more cohesion. It sports a slight burn on the finish—nonetheless, it is a highly complex and enjoyable whisky.
