Marionette’s Dry Cassis was one of its first products to hit the market, and it has become a flagship product for the brand, winning numerous trophies at spirits competitions around Australia. Made from traditional white bud variety blackcurrants sourced from the Clark family farm in Tasmania, this cassis has about half the sugar of most commercial brands, allowing far more control when making mixed drinks, and also making this liqueur a well-balanced drinking experience in its own right. The nose of bright, fresh, ripe fruit is unmistakable – not at all overly sweet or cloying and bursting with natural, juicy berry aromas. There’s also no hint of spirit, so the fruit really shines. On the palate and finish, the fruit continues to sing with plenty of bright acid. If anything, I wouldn’t mind just a touch more sugar to help with texture and length, but it’s a minor gripe for one of Australia’s best fruit liqueurs.
