It’s difficult to overstate the importance of Australian tawny fortified wines in our homegrown whisky industry, due, in no small part, to the outstanding quality of our local tawny casks. But unfortunately, most of the local gear aged in tawny casks is expensive. Morris has decided to fix that problem with their Port Cask release, matured exclusively in Morris tawny casks for just $150 a bottle. This whisky has all the burnt sugar and Christmas pud you want from Aussie tawny casks with lots of candied orange peel and baking spices, while absent the dank, musty oak that often plagues this style. A touch of wet newspaper on the finish, but nonetheless a great deal if you want to drink tawny-cask single malt at a great price.
