Morris of Rutherglen Muscat Barrel Whisky
A truly Australian whisky and in my mind the most important release from Morris, given the unique quality of Rutherglen muscat. This was the first whisky ever released by the brand and is still a huge winner in my book. For lovers of classic sherry-cask Scotch single malt, this is a must-have bottle if you want to support local, with waves of excellent oak and dried fruits erupting from the glass. Here, the beefy Morris spirit character is matched by the powerful sweetness of Muscat, but it’s a dance rather than a fight, each supporting the other to create remarkable complexity for such an inexpensive whisky. The palate is sweet and brilliantly integrated with precisely the right amount of oak to give it legs, and the 48% alcohol is perfect drinking strength. This whisky is an instant classic for both its uniquely Aussie flavour and quality.
