From 270 wines submitted and 20 wines selected.
Chardonnay dominated this group to a record extent, reflecting its rediscovery by drinkers as what is loosely described as a modern Australian style, and the wholehearted endorsement of its quality by top English wine critics.
Riesling is enjoying a renaissance of its own and kept its head above water, but left only four places for sauvignon blanc, semillon and marsanne. Region/varietal links are important here and climate also plays a role.
