Pinot noir, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and grenache – no matter what variety you prefer, the following reds deliver on quality. These are James Halliday’s picks for this year’s top red wines.
The list that follows forms part of James Halliday’s 2019 Top 100.
“The inclusion of five pinot noir and four grenache wines in an ultra-competitive line-up of high-class shiraz and cabernet sauvignon may seem unbalanced. But the justifications are the overall increasing age of pinot vines and discovery of new areas in Tasmania, and that grenache has been born anew with bright, fresh fruit flavours.”
The following wines were chosen from a total of 341 submitted.
