Chard Farm

New Zealand | Central Otago

Our Review

At the entrance to the Gibbston Valley, overlooking the emerald-green waters of the Kawarau river and surrounded by rugged, Otago schist-based cliffs, is Chard Farm. Established in ’87 by Rob Hay on a former orchard, the footprint of this striking winery has grown over the decades with the acquisition of four more vineyards in Lowburn and Parkburn. From these regeneratively farmed sites come a range of single-vineyard and subregional pinot noirs, plus a handful of whites including pinot gris, riesling and chardonnay. The Tuscan-style cellar door at the original Gibbston estate is open for tastings daily. -ANNA WEBSTER
