Camino by Jason Barrette

Our Review

It was while on a tour of Europe that (the now former) Australian Army solider Jason Barrette decided to ditch the battlefields in favour of barrels. After completing his oenology degree at Adelaide Uni in '05, he made wine at Penfolds alongside Peter Gago for 12 years, while also consulting and working vintages in Canada, America, Portugal and France. In ’24, Jason launched his own label, Camino Wine Co., inspired by the Spanish word for ‘journey’. Currently, there are five wines in the range, including a chardonnay and a grüner veltliner from the Adelaide Hills, and a grenache rosé, a grenache, and a shiraz from premium old vines in the Barossa Valley. Each label features an illustrated pair of work boots – a reference to the boots Jason literally leaves behind at wineries he works in around the world, serving as both a physical link to those sites and an excuse to return. -ANNA WEBSTER
