Chateau Yaldara

Tucked away in the southern subregion of Lyndoch lie the impressive old buildings of Chateau Yaldara. Originally established in 1854 as a flour mill, it was purchased by the Adelaide Wine Company and converted into a winery in 1891. It closed the winery in 1916 and it fell into disrepair before Hermann Thumm purchased the property in ’41. Winemaking began again in ’47, and in ’67 the grand chateau was built — that is the face we see today. McGuigan Wines purchased the estate in ’99 and in ’14 it was purchased by the current owners, 1847 Wines. Traditional styles from regional classics to fortifieds are the focus at this historic estate. -DAVE BROOKES
