Taschini

It was only a matter of time before Matilda Innes would be lured into winemaking. Her parents Melissa and John are Limestone Coast legends, vignerons and foodies behind the Ottelia label and Fodder restaurant/cellar door in Coonawarra. But Taschini has its own identity. Matilda says: ‘This is about making lots of fun, little wine projects and not so much about being the 2nd generation at Ottelia.' This means sourcing small parcels of fruit to make wines with personality and difference. Having a strong hospitality background has helped shaped her view. Before returning home to Coonawarra in '17 with partner Paul Stone (the chef now on the pans at Fodder) Matilda honed her skills at top-notch Melbourne restaurants. More wines are coming onboard, which is exciting. Matilda credits a local Italian lady for suggesting the cute name: Taschini means little pockets. -JANE FAULKNER
