Our Review
Michael O'Donohoe pays tribute to his Irish grandfather, Thomas O'Donohoe, and six great-uncles, who arrived from Ireland in 1881 to search for gold, ending up distilling salty bore water into fresh water. A century later Michael O'Donohoe runs a small vineyard in the Riverland that was certified organic in 1990, receives very little water and crops at around 2 tonnes per acre. A further 4ha of vines and native trees were planted in 2008. The wines (released under the Tom's Drop label) are made using a tiny crusher, a small hand-operated basket press, and open fermenters. Exports to Singapore. -JAMES HALLIDAY
