Warner Vineyard

The Warner family – Graeme, Gwen, Stuart and Katie – planted their vineyard in 1996, astutely choosing shiraz (2.3ha) and chardonnay (1.4ha) as their main game, with 0.8ha of roussanne and marsanne as a side bet. As the vines began to move to maturity, it became clear that their choice of the decomposed granitic soils was 100% correct, and the grapes were much in demand, Giaconda taking the shiraz and Jamsheed the chardonnay. In the lead-up to the ’12 vintage, the family decided to keep enough grapes to have Gary Mills (Jamsheed) make around 200 dozen of each wine. -JAMES HALLIDAY
