Ryan Horaczko’s foray into wine began while working at his father’s burgeoning booze shop. As it turned out, he had a knack for tasting and started to get more serious before travel took him to some of the world’s great wine regions. He enrolled in the bachelor of agriculture and technology – viticulture and winemaking at Melbourne Polytechnic in '17. There he met chardonnay and pinot noir specialist Darrin Gaffy, from Principia winery. The rest is history. Ryan now works part-time at Principia. While he loves syrah, sourcing some from Quartz Hill in the Pyrenees, co-owned by Darrin’s sister, he lives on the Peninsula and has taken on a lease of a 0.8ha vineyard. -JANE FAULKNER
