Our Review
Larry Cherubino has had a particularly distinguished winemaking career, first at Hardys Tintara, then Houghton and thereafter as consultant and Flying Winemaker in Australia, NZ, South Africa, the US and Italy. He has developed numerous ranges, including Cherubino, single-vineyard range The Yard, and the single-region Ad Hoc label. The range and quality of his wines is extraordinary, the prices irresistible. The runaway success of the business has seen the accumulation of 120ha of vineyards, the appointment of additional winemakers and Larry’s own appointment as director of winemaking for Robert Oatley Vineyards. -JAMES HALLIDAY
Specialities
At Larry Cherubino Wines, we make uniquely West Australian wines of great depth, detail and purity, true to their provenance.
Our first wine, a single-vineyard Frankland River, was released in 2005. Our focus continues to be on subregional and single-vineyard wines, and today we make more of these than any other producer in Western Australia.
While the winemaking process itself may seem quite simple, the key to the quality of our wines is how we select fruit. The search for grapes with personality and unique traits is so important, and so tied to region and site, that much of Larry’s time is spent just hunting for these qualities.
Our fruit is sourced from vineyards throughout the southern half of Western Australia, with a particular focus on the Great Southern and its subregions of Porongurup and Frankland River. Pemberton and Margaret River are also major players in the make-up of our regional single-vineyard wines.
All our wines are carefully crafted to reflect a true sense of place, and to express the fruit at its finest and most unequivocal.
