Tony (Snake) Davis and Redmond (Herring) Sweeny both started university degrees before finding that they were utterly unsuited to their respective courses. Having stumbled across Margaret River, Tony’s life changed forever; he enrolled at the University of Adelaide, thereafter doing vintages in the Eden Valley, Oregon, Beaujolais and Tasmania, before 3 years at Plantagenet, next Brown Brothers, then a senior winemaking role at Yalumba, a 6-year stint designing Millbrook Winery in the Perth Hills and 4 years with Howard Park in Margaret River. Redmond’s circuitous course included a chartered accountancy degree and employment with an international accounting firm in Busselton, and the subsequent establishment of Forester Estate in '01, in partnership with Kevin McKay. Back on home turf he is the marketing and financial controller of Snake + Herring. -JAMES HALLIDAY
