Save this for your next holiday: six must-visit cellar doors in Tasmania

Although it's the smallest Australian state by area, Tasmania produce some of our finest wines, and these charming cellar doors are dedicated to showcasing just that.

Best wineries in Tasmania

Tasmania is arguably one of Australia's most beautiful states, and provides an excellent getaway spot for Australians across the strait, or a great stay-cation for those lucky enough to live there. With the island full of incredible art, delicious food and breathtaking scenery, it makes sense that it is also one of the most beloved wine regions.

As the coldest of all the wine regions in Australia, it is known for it's top sparkling, pinot noir and chardonnay. And with family-run wineries, new wave producers and long-standing brands calling it home, Tasmania also has a wonderful array of cellar doors to explore.

Below, we spoke to six producers from Tasmania: Bangor Vineyard, Bellebonne, House of Arras, Josef Chromy, Nocton and SISU. They give us an enticing glimpse into what they offer at their cellar doors, and we found out which wine of theirs you need to try.

Get to know the six wineries below.

Bangor Vineyard

Bangor Vineyard cellar doorVigneron and Owner Matt Dunbabin says: Bangor Vineyard is a family-owned cool-climate vineyard on Tasmania's spectacular Tasman Peninsula, where the Dunbabin family has cared for the land since 1890. Our philosophy is simple: make wines that genuinely express where they come from.

H. What can guests expect from a visit to your cellar door?
MD. A visit to Bangor is a down-to-earth Tasmanian experience. Located just 50 minutes from Hobart on the road to Port Arthur, our award-winning cellar door is an ideal stop for travellers. Guests can choose from a range of tasting experiences, enjoy wines by the glass, or settle in with seasonal dishes from our restaurant, where local Tasmanian produce, including our very own Bangor lamb, is thoughtfully paired with Bangor wines.

The combination of exceptional wine, warm hospitality and breathtaking views creates an experience that encourages visitors to slow down, connect with the landscape and discover what makes this corner of Tasmania so special.

H. What other experiences can guests look forward to?
MD. Open 7 days, year-round, we host vineyard tours, guided wine and food experiences, long lunches, winemaker dinners and seasonal events celebrating the region's produce and culture. Our special events often bring together wine, food, music, history and conservation. Families are warmly welcomed, with spacious lawns and open spaces for children to enjoy, and dogs are welcome in our outdoor areas.

2024 Abel Tasman Pinot Noir

A beautifully detailed and fragrant southern pinot noir from the very strong '24 vintage. Bright ruby with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, red plum and strawberry fruits, hints of citrus blossom and wildflowers, red licorice, pomegranate, ginger, Medina spice, charcuterie, undergrowth, dried shiitake and Chinese roast meats. Medium bodied with nicely delineated characters on the palate, fruits red, spice-dusted and pure. Fine, chalky tannins and a bright mineral cadence drive the wine forward. – Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion, 95 points.

SISU

SISU Cellar DoorVigneron and Managing Director Jake Sheedy says: Drawn to the Coal River Valley for its cool climate and nutrient-rich soils, we found a region that aligns perfectly with the bright, expressive and finely structured fruit we value. Our vineyard spans 25 hectares within a 95-hectare farm – intentionally leaving space for nature to thrive. From the beginning, we’ve taken a holistic approach to farming, guided by the belief that great wine comes from healthy, balanced land.

H. What can guests expect from a visit to your cellar door?
JS. Our cellar door invites guests to experience the remarkable beauty of Tasmania, the craftsmanship behind our wines, and the warm hospitality that defines everything we do. Whether you're enjoying a guided wine flight of our estate-grown wines, sharing a locally sourced cheese or charcuterie board, or settling in with one of our stone-baked pizzas overlooking the vineyard, a visit to SISU is designed to be both memorable and genuinely welcoming. Families are warmly welcomed with colouring activities, pencils, juice and soft drinks available.

H. What other experiences can guests look forward to?
JS. Guests can immerse themselves in the SISU story through guided winery tours, offering a behind-the-scenes look at our gravity-fed winery, vineyard practices and philosophy of art over artefact.

Our cellar door also hosts a calendar of seasonal events throughout the year, from intimate wine dinners and guided masterclasses to live music and special release celebrations, giving visitors new reasons to return and experience SISU in every season.

2025 SISU Pinot Noir

Hand-picked, with 17% whole-bunch inclusion. Fermented and matured in 15% new and 85% seasoned oak – framing the fruit without overshadowing it. North and south facing, planted to pinot noir clones 667, MV6, and 777. Black dolerite soils underpin the wine’s structure, depth and savoury detail. Red cherries, graphite and subtle spice unfold in quiet harmony. The palate is finely detailed and composed, shaped by elegant tannins that lend structure and length. Poised yet untamed, with layered, confident complexity.
